INTRODUCTION
God is a covenant-keeping Father whose promises never fail. Throughout the Scriptures, we see God making promises to His people and faithfully bringing them to pass. Every promise of God is established upon His unchanging character and His infallible Word.
However, while God's promises are certain, their manifestation often requires believers to walk in faith, obedience, perseverance, and spiritual warfare. The Christian life is not passive. We have an adversary who seeks to oppose God's purposes and discourage believers from receiving what God has promised.
When Jesus spoke about the kingdom of heaven suffering violence (Matthew 11:12), He was not encouraging physical aggression. Rather, He was describing the determination, persistence, and spiritual intensity required to pursue God's Kingdom and refuse to surrender to opposition. Spiritual violence is expressed through unwavering faith, fervent prayer, steadfast obedience, and exercising the authority Christ has given to every believer.
Many Christians know God's promises but never experience their fulfillment because they become discouraged by delays, opposition, or unbelief. God calls us to stand firm, trust His Word, and continue pressing forward until His promises become a reality in our lives.
Today, we will discover how to access God's promises through faith, spiritual authority, and persistent prayer.
1. UNDERSTANDING GOD'S PROMISES
God's promises are founded upon His unchanging nature.
God's promises are:
A. Anchored in His Word
Numbers 23:19
God cannot lie. Whatever He has spoken will surely come to pass.
B. Activated by Faith
Hebrews 11:6
Faith connects believers to the promises of God.
C. Strengthened Through Prayer
James 5:16
Prayer positions us to receive God's intervention and power.
D. Guaranteed Through Jesus Christ
2 Corinthians 1:20
Every promise of God finds its fulfillment in Christ.
Many of God's promises are challenged by spiritual opposition, human unbelief, difficult circumstances, or seasons of waiting. Therefore, believers must remain steadfast in faith, obedience, and prayer until God's appointed time of manifestation.
2. ENEMIES OF MANIFESTATION
Several things can hinder believers from experiencing God's promises.
A. Spiritual Opposition
Daniel 10:12–13
Daniel's answer was delayed because of spiritual resistance.
B. Doubt and Unbelief
James 1:6–7
Faith mixed with doubt weakens confidence in God's promises.
C. Sin and Disobedience
Isaiah 59:1–2
Sin hinders fellowship with God and affects spiritual effectiveness.
D. Ignorance of Spiritual Authority
Hosea 4:6
Many believers fail to exercise the authority Christ has already given them.
E. Lack of Persistent Prayer
Luke 18:1
Jesus taught believers to pray continually and never give up.
3. KEYS TO ACCESSING GOD'S PROMISES
A. Engage God's Word
Joshua 1:8
Faith grows by knowing God's Word.
You cannot confidently claim promises you do not know.
B. Exercise Bold Faith
Matthew 11:12
Faith refuses to surrender to fear, delay, or discouragement.
Faith declares God's Word regardless of present circumstances.
C. Exercise Your Authority in Christ
Luke 10:19
Jesus has given believers authority over the power of the enemy.
We do not fight for victory; we fight from the victory Christ has already won.
D. Be Persistent in Prayer
Luke 18:1–8
Many breakthroughs come through persistent faith-filled prayer.
Do not stop praying because the answer seems delayed.
E. Live in Holiness
Psalm 24:3–4
A life that honors God allows us to enjoy close fellowship with Him.
Holiness positions us to hear God's voice clearly.
F. Walk in Obedience
Deuteronomy 28:1–2
Many of God's promises are connected to obedience.
Faith and obedience always work together.
4. THE POWER OF SPIRITUAL DECLARATIONS
God has given believers the privilege of declaring His Word with confidence.
Job 22:28
"Thou shalt also decree a thing, and it shall be established unto thee."
Our declarations do not create God's promises.
Rather, they express our faith in what God has already spoken.
As we continually confess God's Word, our faith grows stronger, and we align ourselves with His will.
CONCLUSION
God's promises are sure because they rest upon His unchanging character. Every promise He has spoken is trustworthy, and He is faithful to fulfill His Word in His perfect timing.
As believers, we must refuse discouragement, remain steadfast in faith, walk in obedience, pray persistently, and exercise the authority Jesus Christ has given us.
No opposition is greater than the power of God.
No delay can cancel God's purpose.
No weapon formed against God's children shall prosper.
Stand upon His Word.
Pray without ceasing.
Believe without wavering.
Walk in obedience.
And trust that the God who promised is faithful to perform His Word.
