INTRODUCTION
Waiting is one of the greatest tests of the Christian life.
Many believers find it easier to trust God during seasons of abundance than during seasons of waiting. Yet throughout Scripture, God often prepares His people in the waiting season before bringing them into the fulfillment of His promises.
Waiting is not God's way of ignoring His children. Neither is it always an indication that God has said "No."
Sometimes God is preparing you.
Sometimes He is preparing the blessing.
At other times, there is spiritual opposition that must be overcome through prayer, faith, and perseverance.
The enemy understands that those who remain steadfast in God eventually receive their breakthrough. Therefore, one of his greatest strategies is to make believers grow weary, discouraged, impatient, or willing to accept counterfeit solutions.
The waiting season is often a battlefield.
Many destinies have been damaged because people became impatient and moved ahead of God's timing.
Others have abandoned their faith just before their breakthrough.
But those who wait upon the Lord with unwavering faith will discover that His timing is always perfect.
Today, every satanic delay, every spiritual embargo, every invisible resistance against your destiny shall be broken in the mighty name of Jesus Christ.
POINT ONE
WAITING IS A SPIRITUAL BATTLEFIELD
Waiting is not spiritual inactivity.
It is active faith.
It is trusting God when circumstances appear unchanged.
It is remaining obedient while heaven seems silent.
The enemy wants believers to think that nothing is happening during seasons of waiting.
However, God is often accomplishing His greatest work behind the scenes.
Scripture
Psalm 27:14
"Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and He shall strengthen thine heart."
Notice that waiting requires courage.
Why?
Because fear, doubt, discouragement, and impatience constantly fight against faith.
Waiting therefore becomes spiritual warfare.
Biblical Example
After Jesus ascended into heaven, He instructed His disciples to remain in Jerusalem until they received the promise of the Holy Spirit.
Had they become impatient and abandoned God's instruction, they would have missed Pentecost.
Their obedience during the waiting season prepared them for supernatural power.
Illustration
A farmer plants seed and does not harvest the following day.
Although nothing appears above the ground, life is developing beneath the soil.
The seed is growing long before it becomes visible.
Likewise, God's work often begins where human eyes cannot see.
Practical Application
Never judge God's faithfulness by your present circumstances.
Continue praying.
Continue obeying.
Continue believing.
God is working even when you cannot yet see the evidence.
POINT TWO
THE ENEMY ATTACKS MOST DURING THE WAITING SEASON
The waiting season is often when spiritual attacks become more intense.
The enemy whispers:
"God has forgotten you."
"Your prayers are useless."
"Nothing will ever change."
"Take matters into your own hands."
These voices are designed to weaken faith.
Scripture
Daniel 10:12–13
Daniel prayed.
God answered immediately.
Yet the answer was delayed because the prince of Persia resisted the angel carrying the answer.
This passage teaches an important truth.
Not every delay comes from God.
Some delays involve spiritual resistance that must be overcome through persistent prayer.
Biblical Example
Peter remained in prison while the church prayed without ceasing.
The prison represented delay.
Prayer brought divine intervention.
An angel appeared.
Chains fell.
Iron gates opened.
Peter walked into freedom.
Illustration
A traveler may possess a valid ticket, yet unforeseen obstacles delay the journey.
The destination has not changed.
The delay is temporary.
Likewise, God's promise remains certain even when spiritual opposition attempts to delay its fulfillment.
Practical Application
Do not mistake delay for denial.
Continue standing upon God's promises.
Persistent faith overcomes persistent opposition.
POINT THREE
GREAT MEN AND WOMEN OF GOD FOUGHT THE BATTLE OF WAITING
No one enjoys waiting.
Yet nearly every great servant of God experienced a season of delay before entering divine destiny.
Waiting prepares people for responsibilities they are not yet ready to carry.
Abraham
God promised Abraham a son.
Years passed before Isaac was born.
During the waiting season, Abraham and Sarah attempted to help God by producing Ishmael.
Their impatience created unnecessary complications.
God's promise arrived exactly when God intended.
Joseph
Joseph received prophetic dreams while still a young man.
Instead of immediate promotion, he experienced betrayal, slavery, false accusation, and imprisonment.
Yet every difficult season prepared him for leadership over Egypt.
What appeared to be delay became divine preparation.
David
David was anointed king while still a shepherd.
Years passed before he wore the crown.
He faced lions.
He defeated bears.
He confronted Goliath.
He fled from Saul.
He hid in caves.
The waiting season developed courage, humility, wisdom, and dependence upon God.
Warfare Lesson
God is more interested in preparing the person than merely providing the blessing.
The blessing may arrive in a moment.
Character takes time to build.
Illustration
A skilled builder spends more time laying a strong foundation than constructing the visible structure.
Without the foundation, the building cannot endure.
God often strengthens our spiritual foundation during seasons of waiting.
Practical Application
Do not waste your waiting season.
Grow in prayer.
Study God's Word.
Develop spiritual discipline.
Allow the Holy Spirit to prepare you for the blessing that is coming.
POINT FOUR
BREAKING EVERY SPIRIT OF DELAY
Not every delay is from God.
There is a difference between divine timing and satanic delay.
God may delay an answer to prepare you for something greater, but Satan seeks to delay God's purposes through discouragement, fear, temptation, and spiritual resistance.
The believer must discern the difference.
The devil wants you to become weary so that you abandon your prayers just before your breakthrough.
Scripture
Habakkuk 2:3
"For the vision is yet for an appointed time... though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry."
God's promises have an appointed time.
No power of darkness can permanently stop what God has ordained.
Biblical Example
The Israelites spent many years in Egyptian bondage.
It appeared that God had forgotten them.
But when the appointed time arrived, God raised up Moses.
The Red Sea opened.
Pharaoh's army was defeated.
Israel entered a new season of freedom.
What seemed like endless delay became a glorious testimony.
Illustration
A child may wonder why fruit does not appear immediately after planting a tree.
Growth takes place gradually until the proper season arrives.
Harvest cannot be forced before its appointed time.
Likewise, God's blessings mature according to His perfect wisdom.
Practical Application
Never allow delay to push you into disobedience.
Many people have lost God's best because they accepted counterfeit opportunities instead of waiting for His perfect will.
POINT FIVE
HOW TO WAIT IN WARFARE MODE
Waiting is not sitting idle.
Waiting is active spiritual engagement.
Believers should continue seeking God while expecting His intervention.
1. Wait with Prayer
Jesus taught that men ought always to pray and not lose heart (Luke 18:1).
Prayer keeps your faith alive during seasons of waiting.
The longer the battle, the stronger your prayer life should become.
2. Wait with Worship
Paul and Silas praised God while imprisoned.
Their worship brought an earthquake.
Chains broke.
Prison doors opened.
Praise shifts our attention from our problems to God's greatness.
When worship rises, discouragement loses its power.
3. Wait with Faith
Hebrews 10:35–36 reminds believers not to cast away their confidence.
Faith believes before it sees.
Faith declares God's promises even when circumstances appear unchanged.
Faith refuses to surrender.
4. Wait with Obedience
God blesses obedience.
Many believers pray for open doors while ignoring God's instructions.
Delayed obedience can delay blessings.
Every instruction from God prepares us for our next season.
Illustration
A pilot follows instructions from the control tower before takeoff.
Ignoring those instructions could lead to disaster.
Likewise, obedience positions us for safe arrival at God's destination.
Practical Application
Continue obeying God even when you do not understand His timing.
Faithfulness during hidden seasons prepares you for public promotion.
POINT SIX
THOSE WHO WAIT UPON THE LORD SHALL NEVER BE ASHAMED
God never abandons those who trust Him.
The waiting season always has a purpose.
Sometimes God is protecting you.
Sometimes He is strengthening you.
Sometimes He is arranging people and circumstances for your future.
Sometimes He is preparing a testimony greater than you imagined.
Scripture
Isaiah 40:31
"They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength..."
Notice what God promises to those who wait.
They receive:
- Renewed strength.
- Fresh vision.
- Greater endurance.
- Supernatural grace.
- Divine acceleration.
- Victory over weariness.
Waiting does not weaken those who trust God.
It strengthens them.
Biblical Example
Hannah waited many years before God gave her Samuel.
Her season of tears became a season of celebration.
She not only received a son but also became the mother of one of Israel's greatest prophets.
God's blessings often exceed our expectations.
Illustration
Gold is purified through intense fire.
The process is difficult, but it removes every impurity.
Likewise, God uses seasons of waiting to refine our character, deepen our faith, and prepare us for greater responsibilities.
Practical Application
Refuse to complain.
Refuse to compare your journey with others.
Your testimony has its own appointed time.
God is writing your story according to His perfect plan.
CONCLUSION
Waiting on the Lord is not a sign of weakness.
It is a demonstration of faith.
Every believer will experience seasons of waiting.
Some prayers are answered immediately.
Others require perseverance.
Whatever your season may be, never conclude that God has forgotten you.
He sees every tear.
He hears every prayer.
He knows every battle.
His promises never fail.
The God who remembered Noah...
The God who remembered Hannah...
The God who remembered Joseph...
The God who remembered Israel in Egypt...
Will also remember you.
Your waiting shall not be in vain.
Your prayers shall become testimonies.
Your tears shall become songs of joy.
Your delay shall become divine acceleration.
Your night shall give way to morning.
Your appointed season shall surely come.
In the mighty name of Jesus Christ.
Amen.
