Scriptures: Lamentations 5:1–22; 1 Kings 12:1–14

“Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing?” — Psalm 2:1

There are situations in life that seem to have a deeper root.

A person may repeatedly experience the same type of disappointment.

One family may continually struggle with destructive patterns.

Someone may pray about a particular problem, experience temporary relief, and then find the same problem returning.

This can lead to an important question:

“What is the root of this problem, and where did it begin?”

This prayer session is designed to take that question to God.

Rather than simply praying about the visible symptoms, we are asking God to expose and remove every genuine root of trouble, whether it involves sin, destructive choices, unhealthy patterns, spiritual oppression, family difficulties, or other circumstances.

The Bible says in Ephesians 6:12:

“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.”

Our ultimate battle is not against human beings.

Therefore, when we pray warfare prayers, our focus should be on evil works, spiritual oppression, destructive patterns, strongholds, and every work of darkness, rather than seeking physical harm against people.

THE HOLY GHOST HOUR — MIDNIGHT BATTLES

Midnight prayer has a long place in biblical prayer practice.

Psalm 119:62 says:

“At midnight I will rise to give thanks unto thee because of thy righteous judgments.”

Acts 16:25 also records Paul and Silas praying and singing praises to God at midnight.

Therefore, midnight can be a powerful time for focused prayer, worship, repentance, and seeking God's intervention.

As you pray, do not merely repeat words.

Pray with faith. Pray with understanding. Pray with persistence. Pray with expectation.

Your testimony can become an encouragement to others.

WHAT DOES “THE GENESIS OF MY PROBLEMS” MEAN?

The word genesis means origin, beginning, or source.

When asking, “Who is the genesis of my problems?”, the purpose is not to encourage suspicion or accusation against family members, friends, neighbours, or other individuals.

Instead, ask:

• Where did this destructive pattern begin?
• What keeps causing this problem?
• Is there a repeated family pattern?
• Is there an unresolved personal issue?
• Is there a harmful decision that needs correction?
• Is there spiritual oppression that needs prayer?
• What does God's Word say about this situation?
• What practical steps do I need to take?

Jesus taught that truth brings freedom.

John 8:32 says:

“And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”

Some problems have spiritual dimensions. Others may have emotional, relational, financial, medical, social, or practical causes. Sometimes several factors can exist together.

Therefore, ask God for discernment, not simply an enemy to blame.

BIBLICAL EXAMPLE: LAMENTATIONS 5

Lamentations 5 is a powerful prayer of lament.

The people remembered the suffering they had experienced and cried to God for restoration.

The chapter ends with:

“Turn thou us unto thee, O LORD, and we shall be turned; renew our days as of old.” — Lamentations 5:21

This is important.

When confronting longstanding problems, we should not only ask God to destroy what is evil.

We should also ask God to turn us back to Him, correct what needs correction, restore what has been lost, and renew our lives.

BIBLICAL EXAMPLE: REHOBOAM

In 1 Kings 12:1–14, Rehoboam received counsel but made a destructive decision.

His decision contributed to the division of the kingdom.

This teaches us that decisions can have consequences.

Therefore, while praying against foundational problems, we should also ask God for wisdom to avoid repeating destructive choices.

Proverbs 14:12 says:

“There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.”

Prayer and wisdom must work together.

A. Give Thanks

Thank God for life, salvation, protection, mercy, and the victory He is bringing.

B. Confess Your Sins

1 John 1:9 says:
