Revelation 21:4
“And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain...”
God's purpose for His people is not perpetual sorrow, oppression and pain. He is the God who brings His people into victory and restoration.
Numbers 23:23
“Surely there is no enchantment against Jacob, neither is there any divination against Israel...”
This is a powerful reminder that no evil spiritual agenda is greater than the power of God.
Psalm 35
Psalm 35 is a powerful prayer of David asking God to contend with those who contend with him and defend him against those who pursued him unjustly.
INTRODUCTION
The Bible makes it clear that believers face spiritual opposition.
Ephesians 6:12 says:
“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.”
There are battles that cannot be understood merely from the physical realm.
Some people experience repeated opposition, unexplained setbacks, closed doors, false accusations, disappointment, stagnation and attacks against their progress.
When the enemy raises a battle, the child of God must know where to turn.
Turn to God.
Psalm 35 begins with a powerful cry:
“Contend, Lord, with those who contend with me; fight against those who fight against me.”
David was asking God to arise as his Defender.
These prayers are written in that same warfare spirit: calling upon God to destroy evil works, break spiritual strongholds, silence wicked agendas and bring His people into victory.
GOD IS YOUR DEFENDER
You do not have to fight every battle by your own strength.
Exodus 14:14 says:
“The Lord shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace.”
When God arises, opposition cannot prevail.
Psalm 68:1 declares:
“Let God arise, let his enemies be scattered...”
The battle may be great, but your God is greater.
The opposition may be persistent, but God is able to bring it to an end.
WHEN WICKEDNESS RISES AGAINST YOU
There are times when you may experience:
- repeated disappointment
- false accusations
- household opposition
- witchcraft attacks
- evil pronouncements
- spiritual attacks
- stagnation
- repeated problems
- closed doors
- financial hardship
- delayed breakthroughs
- attacks against your destiny
- loss of opportunities
- strange battles
Do not surrender to fear.
Psalm 27:1 says:
“The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?”
And Psalm 27:2 says:
“When the wicked, even mine enemies and my foes, came upon me to eat up my flesh, they stumbled and fell.”
Your confidence must remain in God.
BIBLICAL EXAMPLES OF GOD FIGHTING FOR HIS PEOPLE
1. Israel and Pharaoh
Pharaoh refused to release Israel.
Moses declared:
“Let my people go.”
God eventually demonstrated His power and brought His people out of bondage.
2. David and Goliath
Goliath appeared stronger than David physically.
But David understood that the battle belonged to God.
1 Samuel 17:47 says:
“The battle is the Lord's.”
The giant fell.
3. Jehoshaphat
Jehoshaphat faced an overwhelming army.
Instead of depending on human strength, he sought God.
2 Chronicles 20:15 says:
“The battle is not yours, but God's.”
God gave Israel victory.
4. Esther and Mordecai
A wicked plan was established against God's people.
But God overturned the plan.
The same people who expected destruction experienced deliverance.
This is the God we serve.
HOW TO PRAY WHEN FACING WICKED OPPOSITION
1. Pray with faith
Mark 11:24 says:
“What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them...”
2. Pray with the Word of God
Use Scripture as your foundation.
3. Refuse fear
2 Timothy 1:7 says:
“For God hath not given us the spirit of fear...”
4. Ask God to fight your battles
Do not depend solely on human strength.
5. Remain consistent
Some battles require persistent prayer.
Luke 18:1 teaches that men ought always to pray and not faint.
