INTRODUCTION
Throughout the Bible, every divine visitation marked the beginning of a new season. When God visited His people, the impossible became possible. The barren conceived, captives were delivered, the sick were healed, closed doors were opened, and ordinary men and women became instruments of God's divine purpose.
However, one truth remains constant throughout Scripture: God's visitation is never accidental. Those who experienced extraordinary encounters with God were people whose hearts were prepared to receive Him. Abraham built altars and walked in obedience. Moses encountered God while faithfully tending sheep. Hannah sought the Lord with sincere prayer. The disciples waited together in unity before the Holy Spirit descended on the Day of Pentecost.
Although God is sovereign and may intervene according to His perfect will, the Bible encourages believers to prepare themselves spiritually. Divine visitation is not merely about receiving blessings; it is about encountering God in a way that transforms the heart, renews the mind, and aligns the believer with His purpose.
Many people desire miracles, but few prepare for the God who performs miracles. They seek His hand while neglecting His presence. Yet the greatest blessing of divine visitation is not simply answered prayer—it is a deeper relationship with the Lord.
Preparation for divine visitation involves repentance, holiness, prayer, faith, obedience, humility, worship, and sensitivity to the Holy Spirit. A prepared heart becomes fertile ground for God's power to work.
The Bible declares:
"Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you." (James 4:8)
God delights in revealing Himself to those who earnestly seek Him. As you study this message, may your heart become ready for a fresh encounter with the Lord, and may your life become a dwelling place for His presence.
WHAT IS DIVINE VISITATION?
Divine visitation is God's supernatural intervention in the life of an individual, family, church, or nation for the purpose of revealing His glory, fulfilling His promises, delivering His people, and advancing His divine plan.
Divine visitation may come in different ways:
- Through the presence of the Holy Spirit.
- Through answered prayer.
- Through divine favor.
- Through healing and deliverance.
- Through supernatural provision.
- Through divine direction.
- Through open doors and opportunities.
- Through conviction and spiritual awakening.
- Through miracles and breakthroughs.
- Through the ministry of God's Word.
Whenever God visits, lives are transformed.
WHY PREPARATION IS NECESSARY
Preparation demonstrates our readiness to receive what God desires to do.
A farmer prepares the soil before expecting a harvest. Likewise, believers must prepare their hearts before expecting divine encounters.
The Lord declared through Amos:
"Prepare to meet thy God." (Amos 4:12)
Preparation does not earn God's favor, but it positions believers to receive what God freely gives through His grace.
Many blessings have been delayed because hearts were not ready.
God prepares His people before He promotes them.
He prepares them before He entrusts them with greater responsibilities.
He prepares them before releasing greater spiritual authority.
Preparation is therefore an essential part of spiritual growth.
1. REPENTANCE AND A PURE HEART
One of the greatest preparations for divine visitation is genuine repentance.
Sin creates barriers between humanity and God.
Isaiah declared:
"Your iniquities have separated between you and your God." (Isaiah 59:2)
Repentance is more than confessing wrongdoing.
It is a sincere turning away from sin and turning toward God.
Throughout Scripture, revival always began with repentance.
John the Baptist preached repentance before introducing Jesus.
The early Church emphasized repentance before the outpouring of the Holy Spirit.
A repentant heart welcomes God's presence.
A hardened heart resists His work.
Biblical Example: Nineveh
When Jonah preached God's message, the people humbled themselves through repentance, fasting, and prayer.
God showed mercy and withheld judgment.
Lesson
God is always ready to forgive those who sincerely return to Him.
2. DEVELOP A CONSISTENT PRAYER LIFE
Prayer prepares the heart for God's visitation.
Prayer is not merely asking God for things.
Prayer is fellowship with the Father.
The more time believers spend with God, the more sensitive they become to His voice.
Jesus frequently withdrew to lonely places to pray.
If the Son of God valued prayer, His followers must do the same.
Jeremiah 33:3 declares:
"Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not."
Prayer invites heaven into earthly situations.
It strengthens faith.
It produces spiritual discernment.
It aligns our desires with God's will.
A praying believer is always prepared for divine visitation.
3. MEDITATE ON GOD'S WORD
God primarily speaks through His Word.
Psalm 119:105 says:
"Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path."
The Scriptures renew the mind, strengthen faith, correct error, and reveal God's character.
A heart filled with God's Word recognizes His voice more clearly.
Meditation is not merely reading the Bible quickly.
It is carefully reflecting upon God's truth until it shapes our thoughts, attitudes, and actions.
The more believers treasure God's Word, the more prepared they become for His visitation.
4. WALK IN HOLINESS
Holiness is one of the greatest preparations for divine visitation. God is holy, and He desires His people to pursue holiness in their daily lives.
The Bible declares:
"Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord." (Hebrews 12:14)
Holiness is not about perfection; it is about living a life that is surrendered to God and separated from sin. It involves daily obedience, integrity, purity of heart, and a sincere desire to please the Lord.
Throughout Scripture, whenever God manifested His glory, He first called His people to sanctify themselves.
Joshua instructed Israel:
"Sanctify yourselves: for tomorrow the LORD will do wonders among you." (Joshua 3:5)
The wonders followed the sanctification.
Lesson
God's presence rests where there is a sincere desire for holiness.
5. EXERCISE FAITH IN GOD'S PROMISES
Faith is the hand that receives divine visitation.
Without faith, many people miss what God desires to do because they focus more on their circumstances than on His promises.
The Bible says:
"But without faith it is impossible to please him." (Hebrews 11:6)
Faith believes before seeing.
Faith trusts God when the answer has not yet appeared.
Faith declares victory while the battle is still raging.
Abraham believed God despite his old age.
Sarah conceived because she judged God faithful.
The centurion received a miracle because he believed Christ's authority.
Every divine visitation recorded in Scripture was connected to faith.
Lesson
God honors those who trust Him completely.
6. CULTIVATE HUMILITY
Pride hinders divine visitation.
The proud depend upon themselves.
The humble depend upon God.
James 4:6 declares:
"God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble."
Humility acknowledges that every blessing comes from God.
It seeks His guidance before making decisions.
It receives correction.
It remains teachable.
Moses was described as one of the meekest men on earth, yet God spoke with him face to face.
Humility prepares the heart for greater encounters with God.
Lesson
Those who humble themselves before God will be lifted up by Him.
7. DEVELOP A LIFESTYLE OF WORSHIP
Worship attracts God's presence.
While prayer is communication with God, worship is adoration of God for who He is.
Throughout the Bible, worship often preceded divine manifestations.
King Jehoshaphat appointed singers before the army went into battle.
As they praised the Lord, God fought for them.
Paul and Silas sang praises at midnight.
Suddenly, the prison shook.
The chains fell off.
The doors opened.
Worship shifts our focus from our problems to God's greatness.
It invites His presence into every situation.
Lesson
A worshipping heart becomes a dwelling place for God's glory.
8. OBEY GOD PROMPTLY
One delayed act of obedience can postpone divine visitation.
Many biblical miracles happened because someone obeyed God's instruction.
Noah built the ark exactly as God commanded.
Abraham left his homeland without knowing his destination.
Peter cast his net again at the command of Jesus.
Joshua marched around Jericho according to God's unusual strategy.
Obedience often precedes breakthrough.
Isaiah 1:19 declares:
"If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land."
Lesson
God directs those who are willing to obey Him completely.
9. WAIT PATIENTLY UPON THE LORD
One of the greatest tests of faith is waiting.
Many believers become discouraged because God's answers do not come immediately.
Yet throughout Scripture, God's timing has always been perfect.
David waited.
Joseph waited.
Hannah waited.
Abraham waited.
The disciples waited for the promise of the Holy Spirit.
Isaiah 40:31 declares:
"But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength..."
Waiting is not inactivity.
Waiting is trusting God while remaining faithful.
Waiting strengthens character.
Waiting deepens dependence upon God.
Waiting prepares believers for lasting blessings.
Lesson
God's delays are never God's denials.
10. BECOME SENSITIVE TO THE HOLY SPIRIT
The Holy Spirit is the believer's Guide.
He warns.
He instructs.
He convicts.
He comforts.
He directs.
Romans 8:14 says:
"For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God."
Many divine visitations begin with a gentle prompting from the Holy Spirit.
Learning to recognize His voice requires quietness, prayer, meditation, and obedience.
The more believers obey His leading, the clearer His guidance becomes.
Lesson
Sensitivity to the Holy Spirit positions believers for continual divine encounters.
BIBLICAL EXAMPLES OF PREPARATION BEFORE DIVINE VISITATION
Abraham
Abraham demonstrated unquestioning obedience.
Because he obeyed God's call, he became the father of many nations.
His preparation was faith and obedience.
Moses
Moses spent years in the wilderness learning humility before God called him to deliver Israel.
God's preparation produced a great leader.
Hannah
Hannah prepared herself through persistent prayer, humility, and complete surrender.
God rewarded her with Samuel.
The Early Church
The disciples waited together in unity, prayer, and expectation.
Then the Holy Spirit descended with power on the Day of Pentecost.
Preparation preceded outpouring.
John the Baptist
John's assignment was to prepare people's hearts for the coming of Jesus Christ.
His message was simple:
Repent.
Prepare.
Receive the Lord.
The same principle remains true today.
God still desires prepared hearts.
