Introduction: Call Upon the Lord
To call upon the Lord is to approach God with faith, sincerity, persistence, and a specific request. God invites His children to seek Him in times of trouble and in times of need.
Psalm 50:15 gives us a direct invitation:
“And call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me.”
God already knows what we need, but He still wants us to come before Him in prayer. Prayer is an expression of our dependence upon God. It is an acknowledgment that our strength, wisdom, protection, provision, healing, restoration, and victory come from Him.
James 4:2 says, “Ye have not, because ye ask not.”
Therefore, do not remain silent when you are facing a battle. Call upon the Lord.
Call upon Him concerning your marriage.
Call upon Him concerning your children.
Call upon Him concerning your health.
Call upon Him concerning your business.
Call upon Him concerning your employment.
Call upon Him concerning your finances and material needs.
Call upon Him concerning your family.

The Lord is not distant from those who sincerely seek Him.
Psalm 145:18 declares:

The Lord Is Our Source of Safety and Security
Our ultimate source of safety is the Lord God Almighty.
No battle is greater than God.
No obstacle is stronger than God.
No evil agenda can overpower God's authority.
No difficult circumstance is beyond His ability to intervene.
Psalm 91:15 says:
“He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him.”
Notice the progression:
Call → God answers → God remains with you → God delivers → God honours.
This is why you must not give up in prayer.
Sometimes the answer does not appear immediately. Scripture teaches us to remain persistent.
Jesus said:
“Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.” — Matthew 7:7
Asking, seeking, and knocking communicate persistence.
Jesus Himself spent extended periods in prayer. He withdrew from the crowd and sought His Father in prayer. His example teaches us that prayer is not merely a quick religious exercise; it is fellowship with God.
When you call upon the Lord, pour out your heart before Him.
Tell Him what is troubling you.
Tell Him where you need intervention.
Ask Him for wisdom.
Ask Him for mercy.
Ask Him for deliverance.

Biblical Examples of People Who Called Upon God
1. David Called Upon the Lord
David repeatedly cried to God during seasons of danger and opposition.
Psalm 34:6 says:
“This poor man cried, and the LORD heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles.”
David did not allow trouble to silence his prayer.
2. Jonah Called Upon God
Jonah cried to God from the depths of his distress, and God heard him.
His experience demonstrates that even when a person feels trapped, prayer can still reach God.
3. Jabez Called Upon God
Jabez recognized that he needed divine intervention and called upon God.
1 Chronicles 4:10 records his prayer, and God granted his request.
4. Elijah Called Upon God
Elijah stood against the prophets of Baal and called upon the living God.
God answered with unmistakable power.

Thank God for your life, your family, His mercy, and what you trust Him to do.

Confess known sins before God and ask for forgiveness and cleansing.
1 John 1:9 says:
