A careless tongue can destroy trust, provoke unnecessary conflict, spread falsehood, and damage opportunities. Lying, gossip, exaggeration, cursing, nagging, murmuring, and words spoken in anger can produce painful consequences.

But through Jesus Christ, we can seek forgiveness, renewal, and victory over destructive speech. We can ask God to cleanse our hearts, discipline our tongues, heal the damage caused by our words, and teach us to speak truth with wisdom and courage.

1. Proverbs 12:18

WHAT DOES DELIVERANCE OF THE TONGUE MEAN?

Deliverance of the tongue means seeking God's help to break free from destructive patterns of speech and to bring our words under the lordship of Jesus Christ.

It involves more than rebuking evil influences. It also requires repentance, forgiveness, discipline, and the renewal of the heart. Jesus taught that our words flow from what fills our hearts (Matthew 12:34–37).

Through prayer and obedience to God's Word, we can seek freedom from:

• Lying, exaggeration, and dishonest speech.
• Gossip, slander, and spreading damaging reports.
• Cursing, insults, and words spoken in anger.
• Murmuring, nagging, and persistent negative speech.
• Evil vows, reckless promises, and harmful declarations.
• Words that destroy peace in marriage, family, church, and relationships.

Important: A speech difficulty such as stammering, or a disease affecting the tongue, is not proof of demonic activity. Pray for healing and strength while seeking appropriate medical or speech-language support when needed.

1. Isaiah's Tongue Was Touched by God

In Isaiah 6:5–7, Isaiah recognized his unclean lips before God, and a seraph touched his mouth with a live coal. This account reminds us of the need for cleansing and readiness to serve God.

Prayer lesson: Ask God to cleanse your speech and prepare your mouth to speak His truth.

2. David Asked God to Guard His Mouth

Psalm 141:3 records David's prayer: “Set a watch, O LORD, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips.”

Heavenly Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, I come before You and surrender my heart and tongue to Your authority.
