Introduction

Unexpected loss can leave a person confused, discouraged and wondering how something that seemed secure could suddenly disappear.

A job may be lost unexpectedly. Money may disappear. A business opportunity may collapse. A relationship may break down. An important possession may be lost. Progress may suddenly be interrupted. A door that appeared open may suddenly close.

There are also losses that cannot simply be replaced by money. Sometimes the greatest need is for God to restore peace, hope, strength, confidence, opportunity and direction.

Biblical Examples of Restoration After Loss

1. Job — Restoration After Devastating Loss

Job experienced extraordinary losses involving his possessions, family and health. Yet his story did not end in loss.

Job 42:10 says that the Lord restored Job's fortunes.

His restoration demonstrates that devastating loss does not have to be the final chapter.

2. David — Recovering What Was Taken

In 1 Samuel 30, David and his men returned to find that their families and possessions had been taken.

David sought God for direction.

God gave him instruction, and what had been taken was recovered.

Naomi experienced the loss of her husband and sons and returned to Bethlehem feeling empty.

Joseph experienced betrayal, slavery, false accusation and imprisonment.

Divine restoration means asking God to recover, rebuild, renew or replace what has been lost according to His will.

• Remain open to a new opportunity instead of assuming restoration must look exactly like the past.
• Thank God for what remains while believing Him for what is ahead.

Final Declaration
