Scripture Reading
1 Samuel 17
Confession
Isaiah 60:1–2
“Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the LORD is risen upon thee.”
“For, behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people: but the LORD shall arise upon thee, and his glory shall be seen upon thee.”
INTRODUCTION
The command “Arise and Shine” is a call to rise above darkness, limitation, stagnation and every situation that attempts to keep God's people down.
In 1 Samuel 17, David faced Goliath, a giant who had intimidated Israel for many days. David refused to accept the limitation placed before him.
He arose.
He confronted the giant.
And by the power of God, he prevailed.
The battle was not merely about David's physical strength. It was about whether God's people would continue to live under intimidation or rise in faith.
1 Samuel 17:47 says:
“The battle is the LORD'S…”
There are seasons when a person must arise spiritually, reject defeat, and take their stand on the Word of God.
Isaiah 60:1 declares:
“Arise, shine; for thy light is come…”
God's purpose is not for His children to remain permanently under darkness.
Your present situation is not necessarily your final story.
Where there has been delay, pray for divine intervention.
Where there has been stagnation, ask God for movement.
Where there has been loss, pray for restoration.
Where there has been oppression, stand upon the authority of Christ.
Where there has been darkness, let the light of God shine.
WHAT DOES “ARISE AND SHINE” MEAN?
1. It means refusing to remain a victim of failure and limitation.
2. It means rising above fear and intimidation.
3. It means refusing to accept prolonged stagnation as your destiny.
4. It means asking God to bring delayed blessings forth according to His will.
5. It means recovering what has been lost where restoration is God's purpose.
6. It means breaking free from destructive patterns.
7. It means allowing the glory of God to manifest in your life.
8. It means moving forward instead of remaining trapped in the past.
9. It means refusing to allow opposition to determine your future.
10. It means walking in the light of God's Word.
Ephesians 5:14 says:
“Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light.”
BIBLICAL EXAMPLE: DAVID AND GOLIATH
David did not deny the existence of Goliath.
He simply refused to believe that Goliath was greater than God.
Goliath saw David as insignificant.
David saw Goliath through the greatness of God.
David declared:
“Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the LORD of hosts.”
1 Samuel 17:45
This is the foundation of spiritual warfare: our confidence is in God, not in human strength.
