“He revealeth the deep and secret things: he knoweth what is in the darkness, and the light dwelleth with him.”
Ephesians 1:17 (KJV)
“That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him.”
Daniel 2:28 (KJV)
“But there is a God in heaven that revealeth secrets, and maketh known to the king Nebuchadnezzar what shall be in the latter days.”
Introduction: The God Who Reveals Secrets
There are situations in life that require more than human knowledge. There are decisions that demand wisdom, problems that require understanding, and circumstances in which we need God's direction to know what to do next.
The Bible reveals that God is the source of true wisdom, knowledge, and understanding. Daniel 2 records how King Nebuchadnezzar experienced a troubling dream that none of his wise men could explain. Daniel sought God, and the mystery was revealed to him.
Daniel did not take the glory for himself. He acknowledged that the God of heaven reveals secrets and gives wisdom to those who seek Him.
This is the foundation of our prayers in this article.
Do you need divine direction concerning your future? Are you asking God to open your eyes to opportunities you have overlooked? Do you need wisdom concerning your finances, business, family, ministry, relationships, or spiritual life? Are you asking God to expose deception, reveal the truth about a difficult situation, or help you recognize the right steps to take?
You can bring these needs before the Lord.
The Bible says in Jeremiah 33:3, “Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.”
As you pray, ask God to reveal what you need to know, correct what you misunderstand, expose genuine wrongdoing, and grant you the wisdom to act on His guidance.
Remember that not every dream, suspicion, delay, or unusual experience is evidence of a hidden enemy. Our prayers for revelation should draw us closer to God, establish us in truth, and help us make wise and righteous decisions.
May the Lord open your understanding, grant you the spirit of wisdom and revelation, and lead you into the truth you need to fulfil His purpose for your life, in the name of Jesus.
What Does It Mean to Know the Secret?
Knowing the secret means seeking God for wisdom, understanding, discernment, and insight into matters that are beyond our present knowledge.
In Daniel 2, God revealed the mystery of Nebuchadnezzar's dream. The revelation demonstrated God's wisdom and sovereignty, not Daniel's personal power.
For Christians today, seeking divine revelation includes asking God to help us:
- Understand the Scriptures and apply them correctly.
- Recognize opportunities and make wise decisions.
- Discern truth from deception and sound counsel from misleading advice.
- Recognize our own mistakes, wrong motives, and spiritual weaknesses.
- Respond wisely to difficult situations and genuine opposition.
- Understand the responsibilities and opportunities God has placed before us.
God's revelation is not an invitation to control other people or to assume that every hidden matter concerns a secret conspiracy. We should test impressions, dreams, and advice against Scripture, truth, sound judgment, and trustworthy counsel.
Biblical Examples of Divine Revelation
1. Daniel: The secret was revealed
Daniel 2:19 (KJV)
“Then was the secret revealed unto Daniel in a night vision. Then Daniel blessed the God of heaven.”
Daniel and his companions sought God's mercy concerning the king's troubling dream. God revealed the mystery, and Daniel praised Him.
Prayer lesson: When you face a situation beyond your understanding, seek God for wisdom rather than depending only on your own ability.
2. Joseph: Wisdom for a difficult assignment
In Genesis 41, Joseph interpreted Pharaoh's dreams and explained the coming years of abundance and famine. He also recommended a practical plan to prepare for the difficult season ahead.
Prayer lesson: Divine wisdom should help us take responsible action, prepare for challenges, and use opportunities well.
3. Elisha: Eyes opened to see God's protection
2 Kings 6:17 (KJV)
“And Elisha prayed, and said, LORD, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see.”
Elisha's servant was afraid when he saw the enemy surrounding the city. Elisha prayed, and the servant was allowed to see the heavenly host surrounding them.
Prayer lesson: Ask God to strengthen your faith when fear makes your circumstances appear overwhelming.
4. Solomon: Wisdom to make the right decisions
In 1 Kings 3:9–12, Solomon asked God for an understanding heart to govern the people and discern between good and evil.
Prayer lesson: Wisdom is not simply knowing hidden information. It is also knowing how to act righteously on what you understand.
