Introduction
There are seasons when ordinary prayers must give way to persistent, determined and uncompromising prayer.
Violent prayer is persistent prayer. It is unshakeable, insistent and adamant prayer. It is an Enough-Is-Enough prayer. It is bold prayer prayed with faith and confidence in the power of God.
Violent prayer does not mean hatred or physical violence toward people. It means standing firmly in spiritual warfare against sin, evil, oppression, demonic strongholds, destructive patterns, satanic obstacles and every work of darkness that opposes God's purpose for your life.
The Bible says in Ephesians 6:12, “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world.”
Therefore, our battle is spiritual.
When violent faith and persistent prayer are combined with obedience to God, we can stand firmly against opposition and refuse to surrender our God-given progress.
There are people who appear to be moving physically, yet they continually experience stagnation in important areas of life. Their efforts seem fruitless. Opportunities disappear. Blessings are delayed. They experience repeated cycles of rising and falling.
But Psalm 18:29 says:
“For by thee I have run through a troop: by my God have I leaped over a wall.”
God is able to break cycles, open doors, restore what has been lost and lead His people forward.
What Is Violent Prayer?
Violent prayer is prayer that refuses to give up.
It is:
- Persistent prayer.
- Unwavering prayer.
- Bold prayer.
- Faith-filled prayer.
- Expectant prayer.
- Warfare prayer.
- Fervent prayer.
- Persistent intercession.
- Enough-Is-Enough prayer.
- Prayer against spiritual opposition.
- Prayer for divine intervention.
- Prayer that refuses to surrender to stagnation.
James 5:16 says:
“The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.”
Violent prayer is therefore not about attacking human beings. It is about standing firmly against every evil work and asking God to destroy the works of darkness.
1 John 3:8 declares:
“For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.”
When Your Progress Is Under Attack
Many people have opportunities but cannot advance.
Some work hard but continually experience frustrating results.
Some experience repeated delays.
Some begin projects but cannot complete them.
Some experience repeated disappointment whenever something good is about to happen.
Others experience cycles of:
Rise → progress → setback → recovery → another setback.
Whatever the cause, the believer can bring these matters before God in prayer.
Deuteronomy 28:13 says:
“And the LORD shall make thee the head, and not the tail; and thou shalt be above only, and thou shalt not be beneath.”
Your prayer should therefore include spiritual warfare, wisdom, obedience, diligence, divine direction and protection.

1. Jacob — Refusing to Let Go
Jacob wrestled through the night and refused to let go until he received a blessing.
Genesis 32:26:
“And he said, I will not let thee go, except thou bless me.”
