How to Pray When You Have Tried Everything and Nothing Seems to Change
How to Pray When You Have Tried Everything and Nothing Seems to Change
Key Scripture
“Is any thing too hard for the LORD?”
Genesis 18:14 (KJV)
Introduction
There are moments when you pray, fast, seek advice, work hard, and do everything you know to do, yet your situation still seems unchanged.
You may have prayed about your finances, family, marriage, career, health, ministry, or personal struggles for a long time. Each time you expect a breakthrough, another disappointment seems to appear.
This can leave you asking:
“Lord, what else can I do?”
When you reach this point, do not conclude that God has forgotten you. The Bible contains many examples of people who waited through difficult seasons before experiencing divine intervention.
Sometimes the answer is not to stop praying but to change the way you approach the situation in prayer—moving from anxiety to faith, from desperation to surrender, from repeatedly describing the problem to standing firmly on God's promises.
What to Do When Nothing Seems to Change
1. Be Honest With God
You do not need to hide your frustration from God.
David openly expressed his distress:
“How long wilt thou forget me, O LORD? for ever?”
Psalm 13:1 (KJV)
Tell God exactly how you feel, but do not allow your feelings to become your final conclusion.
You can say:
“Father, I do not understand what is happening, but I still trust You.”
2. Stop Praying From Fear
Fear can make prayer become a repeated expression of panic.
Instead of continually saying, “What if nothing changes?”, begin declaring what God's Word says.
Isaiah 41:10 (KJV) says:
“Fear thou not; for I am with thee.”
Pray from the position that God is with you, even before you see the answer.
3. Ask God for Divine Direction
Sometimes the question is not only:
“Lord, change my situation.”
It is also:
“Lord, show me what You want me to do.”
There may be an action, decision, relationship, habit, or direction that needs to change.
Proverbs 3:5–6 (KJV) teaches us to trust in the Lord and acknowledge Him in all our ways.
Ask God for wisdom before making important decisions.
4. Pray Against What Is Actually Hindering You
Not every difficult situation has the same cause.
Some situations require patience. Some require wisdom and practical action. Some involve opposition, unhealthy decisions, or circumstances outside your control.
Ask God to reveal what needs to be addressed.
Psalm 139:23–24 (KJV) is an excellent prayer:
“Search me, O God, and know my heart.”
5. Stop Measuring God by the Delay
A delayed answer does not necessarily mean a denied answer.
Abraham waited for the fulfillment of God's promise.
Joseph spent years in difficult circumstances before his position changed.
David was anointed king but still passed through seasons of persecution.
The delay was not the end of their story.
Biblical Examples of People Who Waited for Change
Abraham
Abraham waited many years for the promised son.
Romans 4:20–21
He continued believing that God was able to perform what He had promised.
Joseph
Joseph experienced betrayal, slavery, and imprisonment before his circumstances changed dramatically.
Genesis 41:41
His difficult season did not cancel God's purpose.
Hannah
Hannah carried the pain of barrenness for years and continued seeking God.
1 Samuel 1:10–20
God eventually answered her prayer.
Bartimaeus
When Bartimaeus heard that Jesus was passing by, he cried out for mercy and refused to remain silent even when people tried to quiet him.
Mark 10:46–52
His persistence resulted in his breakthrough.
Paul and Silas
They were beaten and imprisoned, yet they prayed and sang praises at midnight.
Acts 16:25–26
God intervened dramatically.
How to Pray When You Feel You Have Tried Everything
Pray With Surrender
Say:
“Father, I surrender this situation completely into Your hands. Do what I cannot do.”
Pray With Persistence
Jesus taught the importance of continuing to pray and not faint.
Luke 18:1
Pray With Scripture
Instead of praying only from your emotions, remind yourself of God's promises.
Pray for Wisdom
Ask God to show you what you have not yet seen.
Pray for Divine Intervention
Ask God to intervene in ways that human strength cannot accomplish.
Pray Against Spiritual Opposition
Where you discern persistent spiritual opposition, stand firmly on the authority of God's Word and pray for deliverance and victory.
Bible Verses to Pray When Nothing Seems to Change
Jeremiah 32:27
“Behold, I am the LORD, the God of all flesh: is there any thing too hard for me?”

“Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart.”
Isaiah 43:19
“Behold, I will do a new thing.”
Psalm 34:17
“The righteous cry, and the LORD heareth, and delivereth them out of all their troubles.”
Romans 8:28

Bring your requests to God with thanksgiving, and His peace will guard your heart and mind.

A Prayer of Surrender and Divine Intervention
Heavenly Father,
I come before You because there are situations in my life that I have tried to change but have not been able to resolve.
Lord, You know my struggles, my disappointments, my unanswered questions, and the battles I have faced.
Today, I surrender everything into Your hands.
Where I need wisdom, give me wisdom.
Where I need correction, correct me.
Where I need patience, strengthen me.
Where I need to take action, show me what to do.
Where there is opposition, arise and fight for me.
Where there is a closed door that You have ordained for me to enter, open it by Your mighty power.
Break every evil cycle, remove every unnecessary delay, restore what has been lost, and lead me into the purpose You have prepared for my life.
Give me grace to keep trusting You even when I cannot see what You are doing.
I refuse to give up.
I refuse to surrender to fear.
I believe that nothing is too hard for You.
Let my situation change for Your glory.
Let my tears become testimony.
Let my waiting become a testimony of Your faithfulness.
In the mighty name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
When Should You Keep Praying?
Keep praying when:
- The answer appears delayed.
- You feel discouraged.
- Circumstances seem worse than before.
- You do not understand what God is doing.
- You have not yet received clear direction.
- You need strength to continue.
- You are waiting for a breakthrough.
But remember that persistent prayer does not mean refusing wise action. Pray, seek God's direction, obey His Word, and take responsible steps where necessary.
Your situation may be difficult today, but today's difficulty does not have to become tomorrow's conclusion.
God is still able to make a way.
